The thaw this spring was slow, leaving the earth slushy and swollen. Backup of snow melt causes great mushy deposits on the landscape and what should be small streams are large and bursting. The air seems too thick and wet to breathe and the snow and rain just keep falling. The inhabitants of Cimoron should be wary of flash flooding and lush inedible grasses.

13 DECEMBER 2009 ; To clear up some murkiness in the rules that I've been getting a lot of questions on since the season change, the official guidelines regarding character aging are as follows:
Foals age one year every season (two weeks) until they are three years old.
Horses over three years old age one year every four seasons (eight weeks/two months).

Hope this helped clear things up a little! And just a reminder as the holidays creep closer, I hope everyone remembers to get their Secret Santa gifts ready and keep checking back on Tinseltown for their gifts from Santa!

Long slender neck extended over the edge of the black stone cliffs. Dark, glossy eyes peering down at the violent black sea as it crashed forcefully against the jagged rocks far below. An unforunate fate it would be to fall and impale oneself on a sharp rock before proceeding to drown in the violent current of the sea so the grey-hued mare took a casual step back away from the deadly cliff edge. With a slight toss of her dial to cast the hair that had fallen in her face aside she turned and wandered off in no direction in particular. The emptiness and solitude of the cliffs was what attracted her to this place, like vultures to a rotting corpse she found herself wanting to come to what would seem such a dull and un-interesting place to most. The cliffs were harsh and jet black in colour, the whole area virtually deserted. No one around to bother and annoy her, and in particular no mares. The wretched beasts would be after her, plotting against her if they were here. She didn't trust them, not in the slightest, and paranoia often over-whelmed her in their presence so it was best to keep away.

Life was dull these days and more often than not she found herself wandering around aimlessly with bugger all to do. There was little grass around and what she could see of it was often short, sparse and not particularly great tasting so grazing wasn't really much of an option to reduce boredom. The weather atop the cliffs was far worse than in the more sheltered, lower parts of the island and even in those places it wasn't great. Violent winds battered against the few trees that stood on the cliff edges, the air almost unbearably cold. Ice clung to the branches of trees and every other available space like a limpet to a rock. It was winter and cold weather was undoubtedly expected, but it was unlikely that many expected such violent, troublesome weather. The cold harsh wind nipped violently at her pelt as she stood still atop the cliffs, neither thinking or doing anything in particular. Well the latter was true, but she was in fact thinking. Thinking about the creep of a mare she'd bumped into not far away from here. Well she hadn't literally bumped into her, that would be just plain stupid but she had seen her and the mare had undoubtedly given her a funny look. Probably waiting to attack her, they all seemed to be waiting to attack her. Glancing around, paranoid, she made herself check that she hadn't followed her here, waiting to push her over the cliff edge and watch her plummet to her death.

Rising Shadow
[Is it what you need.]

Darkness. That's all he felt for the last ten years since he last saw this place. Like he was never completely whole again.

There was a reason why he left, you know.

Tassels blew with the evening wind. He knew exactly where he was now. These were the very cliffs that he spent hours on, gazing into the sea as they washed up in deafening crashes against the rockyside. It had been so long now, it only seemed like yesterday that his father Shadow's Joker had gone insane and eventually killed himself on these very cliffs. Plummeting to his death, hitting the water with an agonizing crash of water and horsehair.

It wasn't a pretty sight.

He remembered walking onto the grizzly site, the body had washed up onto the shore. His father's face was beaten in and mangled, flesh peeling off the bone from where he landed on a rock, inevidably ending his life before the sea water could drown him. His body was relatively untouched, other than the fact his head was bashed in, part of his frontal skull was missing. He was sure that then he gained his little "friend."

Now Rising, no need to be sarcastic now.

Fantomas, as it liked to call itself, had been living in his head since that day. Now he knew why his father had gone psychotic and raped his mother. He had already done the same deed himself, and now he had a daughter that he was taking care of. He named her The Shadow of Betrayal, because he knew that one day, somehow, she would turn on him. She was only a newborn, and yet she was already exhibiting some.. odd characteristics. He wondered if maybe his aquired deformity had something to do with it, but he was unsure.

[it sets you free]

[like someone to save you.]

He had been plodding along long enough to find himself in company with one of the color-splashed mares of the island. This he was completely baffled with, he had never seen this happen before with how it was before he left. What had he missed after the fact? He assumed radiaton of some sort had something to do with it.

She was a grey mare in coloring, that was evident enough, but he wasn't close enough to notice any other particular markings. He stayed by himself for now, only about thirty or so yards away from the mare. He had no need to go barging in on her private air space. If she wanted to talk, then he would listen. But for now, he stood stock still, gazing once more into the sea below him, on the horizon.

Paranoia began to slow seep its way into her senses; blocking out most of the rational part of her brain. Automatically her muscles tensed. Coiled like a spring ready to dart out of danger at any second the uneasy feeling of being watched fell upon her. It was one of those mares back to kill her. It was bound to be. The coniving minx would no doubt ram at her, sending her flailing body hurtling over the cliff edge and down onto rocks below. Instinctively she took a hasty step backwards away from the sheer drop. The rational part of her brain was tryin desperately to tell her she was being a complete and utter idiot. Unfortunately it was drowned out by the rest of her mind. Glancing from left to right warily she spotted an unusual shape out of the corner of her dark-hued eyes. Instantly she panicked, eyes wide as she tried to make out what it was without looking directly over there. It was no used however and slowly she craned her neck round to look at the shape of another equine.

Eyes widened in alarm, body instinctively turning to face the palomino equine. She was ready to turn and run when she realised that this wasn't in fact a mare waiting to send her hurtling over a cliff to her death but in fact a stallion. Relaxing almost instantly her gaze wandered briefly over his palomino frame. He seemed harmless enough, and unlike around mares there wasn't a part of her brain that instantly told her to fear him. She was still a little unsure of how to talk to talk to other equines of either gender however and grew uncertain as to whether she should approach the mutt or not. A barely audible sigh escaped her lips as she decided she might as well, it was better than standing here gaping at him and looking like a complete and utter lunatic. Slowly she strolled, in what she thought to be a casual manner, over to the mutt. Coming to hault by his side, taking care not to stand too close, she racked her brain for something normal to say. Hi would probably be a good way to start. "Um.. Hi." Smooth. Her voice was soft with a silky undertone, her words sounding rather confident and prominant for someone who lacked both. However anyone who payed enough attention could probably detect the hint of nervousness that lay underneath.

She realised she probably looked rather stupid in comparison to such an ordinary looking palomino stallion. Her appearance being anything but ordinary. She was a dark grey-blue in colour which would be fairly normal in itself if it weren't for the numerous splashes of white in odd shapes that decorated her pelt and the fact that the grey merged into a lighter shade on her stomach with a pattern that looked like paint running down her side. Her hind quarters were adorn with a large white cross, her fore with a small white skull, her favourite of all the splashes of colour. The unusualness of her colouring didn't stop there however, her stomach bore numerous small white spots and her dark-hued eyes were outlined in thick white that came to a point at the corner. It fitted her perfectly. An odd appearence for an odd mare.

Rising Shadow
[Is it what you need.]

It didn't take a rocket scientist to see that the grey mare with the odd markings was getting extremely anxious and uncomfortable.

She should be.

Rising shook his head at Fantomas' background narrative in his head. This was getting incredibly ridiculous. His thoughts wern't his anymore, although there were parts of the day where his thoughts were free and unhindered by the entity hiding inside his head. He cursed himself, his father, and Fantomas himself for ruining him.

That's not very nice Rising.

Like you know what's nice and what isn't. He absentmidedly thought to himself. His pools fixed on the mare in front of him. She seemed bored, nervous, and figity, perhaps. She closed the thirty yards quickly enough and spoke first words to him. She had no idea what she was getting into.

Hey, now you're getting the idea.

He ignored the needless banter of his inner demon. He supposed he would best reply to her. It would seem quite un-gentlemanly to not do so. Although this would be his first words on Cimoron since he left.. Was he ready for that? He supposed so, because he quickly found himself speaking words. Hello. A nice day for a stroll, is it not? If he had any choice he wouldn't have said that much. A simple hello would have sufficed, but evidently Fantomas had other plans.

[it sets you free]

[like someone to save you.]

He looked more intently at the mare before him now. She had a skull on her fore quarters, a cross on her hind. The blue-grey mixture of colorings were intersting enough, but then again his own daughter looked like a cheetah. She had cheetah spots all down her legs and on her rump. A bald face and socks as well. He continued the family name of Shadow into a new generation, he had named her The Shadow of Betrayal. She had taken to the nickname of Bet (pronounced bait.) She hadn't spent all that much time around him, she hid for the most part.

It was grew slightly awkward, almost uncomfortable, standing next to the mutt in silence. She knew it had only been mere seconds since she'd said something but being someone who wasn't used to having any form of conversation whatsoever it seemed like a life time had passed. To keep the irrational part of her mind from taking over she allowed herself to think of other things. Gaze wandered leisurely over the stallion's frame, observing him from a closer perspective. She'd like to say he was as unusually marked as her but unfortunately as she'd already noticed that wasn't the case. He was palomino and that was all there was to it. Never the less it didn't particularly matter in the slightest but only made her look less... Odd. Well so far she had done well to keep from appearing completely insane and the appearence of the stallion had distracted her from the state of paranoia she'd managed to get herself into. She felt slightly safer in the company of the stallion, her mind telling her the mares would have a harder time attacking her with him here. Or at least that's what she told herself.

Moments later the stallion opened his mouth, uttering a rather casual reply to her greeting. Her lips tweeked upwards slightly at the corners, pleased she hadn't scared him off just yet. I took her a few moments to think of something to say in return; talking wasn't as easy as it looked. "Yes it most definately is." Again. Smooth. It wasn't a great reply but it was the best she could come up with. Why did having a conversation have to be so difficult? However it was turning about to be a nice day for a stroll. Although the wind still whistled through the air as it always did on the coast it was still accompanied with a gentle warmth. It was actually rather relaxing. Well it would be if it wasn't for the stress of trying to make conversation. And the fact that there was bound to be one of those evil coniving mares lurking behind a bush some where waiting to attack her. Still it could be worse. She could be completely on her own. Wandering around alone quickly grows rather tedious and often brings about a feeling of misery. Well at least in her case it does. Although making conversation often proves stressful as long as it's not with a mare then it usually eases the irrational, paranoid part of her mind.

Too busy thinking about random rubbish she hadn't realised it'd been silent for quite some time and she began to feel awkward and uneasy once more. There had to be something worth mentioning. Well her name would probably be a pretty obvious start. "I'm Touch of sanity by the way... You can call me Sanity if you like though." She didn't know why she added the last part in but she supposed it was an easier alternative to saying the whole of her rather lengthy name. Now she grew uncertain as to whether or not she should ask for his name or would that be too rude? perhaps she ought to wait and see if her told her it himself. Yes that sounded like a good plan. She'd stand here and wait for him to say something more. However waiting often proved rather difficult in her case.

Rising Shadow
[Is it what you need.]

He could feel the situation getting more and more awkward and the mare seeming to become increasingly nervous. He wasn't sure what else more he could do to diffuse the situation to make it a more comfortable experience.

You could fuck her.

Rising tried to keep his expression blank as his inner annoyance spoke. This was how he ended up with his daughter after all. He wasn't sure if she had actually caught the slight shock or maybe even surprise for that brief second. He had hoped that she did not. He could figure out how awkward that one might end up.

She agreed on his question earlier concerning how nice a day it was. She then gave him her name, it was an interesting name to match an interesting mare.

[it sets you free]

[like someone to save you.]

That is quite an interesting name to match a so far, interesting mare. My name isn't anything special, Rising Shadow, you may call me either name. Either way it's fine with me.

He wished that he had more to say, but found that he could not.

Well this was certainly bearable to say the least. The conversation seemed to get easier as time went by and she found herself almost comfortable in her present situation. Almost. The nerves and paranoia were still there. Just hidden deeper under the surface of her emotions. Still as the old saying goes: practice makes perfect. Or something along those lines. It wasn't that there was anything wrong with her present company. Far from it. It was more the fact she found company in general nerve racking to say the least. Well stallions made her a down sight less nervous but it was still there.

She listened politely to what she thought to be a compliment. Interesting was good. At least it wasn't boring. She'd hate to think she was boring the stallion. As nervous as she often felt she still had a small desire to please others. A small smile danced on her lips as she listened; nerves taking a place in the back of her mind for the time being. So the stallion had a name. Rising Shadow. She rolled the name over her tongue as she stored it in the back of her mind. Then, drawing her mind back to his earlier comment, she thought it best to say something. "I don't know if interesting is quite the word for it..." She was always modest and often lacked confidence unless put in certain situations. Still that was beside the point. Drawling over his name she decided she'd call him the latter since she'd been given the choice. Shadow had a ring to it. Or so she thought. Having made the decision to call him Shadow she thought it best to find something to talk about before the previous awkwardness set in. "So i'm assuming you're from some where around here? Or are you just passing by?" Not quite what she was hoping for but it was the best she could come up with.

Rising Shadow
[Is it what you need.]

He could just sense how nervous she was, not as much as before mind you, and it was unnerving. He wasn't quite sure as to what to do to make her feel less nervous around him..

Arctic White save me, she knows about Fantomas, doesn't she? He thought almost in a panic state, surely she knew if she was this nervous?

Easy there killer, I highly doubt that. I haven't yet made you do such a thing to make her think you were possessed. His inner speech cooed to him like a lover. A sick, and twisted lover at that.

It never ceased to amaze him how his father had gotten away from that, now he understood why his father killed himself like he did. Not only had he lost his mate, but he had lost his mind in the process. It was sickening just thinking about how easily something could do that to someone.

Sanity had spoken while he was thinking to himself, "I don't know if interesting is quite the word for it..." Rising couldn't help himself with the next words, he appointed it to Fantomas.
Why do you say it like that?
Damnit Fantomas!
Yes dear? His inner voice said sarcastically. Oh if only Rising could wring his neck with his bare teeth. Why that's not very nice.
Go molest your mother.
Why, are you horny again? Horny old man arn't you?

[it sets you free]

[like someone to save you.]

Rising cut off his private thought banter with Fantomas long enough to hear Sanity say something else. "So i'm assuming you're from some where around here? Or are you just passing by?"
It depends on what you mean by around here. I was born on this island, twelve years ago. My grandfather was Alazar, I heard that he was some sort of light king, the first from what stories said. Anyways, I lived in The loner lands all my life until I decided to go into hiding for the last six or so years.
Yeah, because I drove daddy crazy, you found me, and I own your ass, bitch.
Rising had to hold back an almost look of shock, Fantomas had never gone down that road before. Quite interesting indeed.
